CSA Member Agreement - 2022

We, at Sacred Acreage wish to provide you with fresh, local, seasonal food and you, the member, wish to receive a portion or “share” of our CSA harvest. This agreement outlines our joint and shared commitments to that relationship.

A. Becoming a Part of Sacred Acreage Farm Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a direct relationship between farm and customer, or Sacred Acreage and you as our customer. Rather than simply purchasing food, our customers become “members” of this farm who receive a portion of the farm’s CSA share at a set price.

Our CSA runs for 14 weeks, from Tuesday, June 7, 2022, until Tuesday, September 6, 2022. Members are responsible for showing up at the preferred exchange site (farm pick-up or delivered) each week to receive the share(s) of freshly harvested produce and/or goods. Each share could feed up to a family of 4 who enjoy vegetables or 2 adult veggie lovers. You will generally receive 8-12+ varieties of vegetables each week.

Detailed information regarding pick-up and delivery are discussed below in Section 3.

Variety and quantity may vary as described below in Section 2.

B. Our Growing Practices

While we use organic practices, we are not certified organic. We are happy to answer any specific questions you may have about our farming practices. All of our seeds, bushes and trees for the CSA are organic or non-GMO. We will continue to use safe and food grade alternatives for all our crops.

C. The Products We Expect for 2022

We expect to grow several varieties of each type of the following vegetables.

Beans* Beets* Broccoli* Carrots* Cabbage* Cucumbers* Greens (Kale, Swiss Chard)* (Various) Herbs* (Various) Herbal Teas* Kohlrabi* Lettuce* Melons* Onions* Pak Choi* Peas* Peppers* Potato* Radish* Spinach* Squash* Tomato* Winter Squash* Zucchini*

D. Sharing in the Reward of Crop Surplus

Our farm is mainly a CSA farm and most of our production is planned for the CSA’s. When crops are especially abundant, we pack as much as possible into your share(s). However, we do not want to overwhelm our members or deliver so much produce that it goes to waste. When we feel that members have received enough of certain crops, we will handle the CSA crop surplus by donating it to a family who needs encouragement; setting it out for member pick-up; etc. We will be experiment with new varieties of vegetables, fruits, herbs, or flowers so that we can increase diversity and will post any of the successful additions on the farm in our blog. The CSA crops will be distributed as equitably as possible; however, it is possible that not all shares will receive all items in the same week, or all CSA members will receive a small sample of these varieties. Again, all shares will be as equitable as possible regarding the quantity of produce and value.

E. Sharing in the Risk of Crop Failure

We promise to do our best to provide you with a bountiful share each week. The quantity of produce, however, may vary from week-to-week due to extreme weather, insects, or other production factors despite our best efforts.

By joining our CSA, you are agreeing to share the risk of crop failure with us and other members.

In the unlikely event of a crop failure, our procedure is as follows:

If only a small portion of crops fail, we compensate for the failed crops by filling your share with other crops or microgreens grown on the farm that are ready for harvest at that time.

If a large portion of crops fail, we may not be able to deliver any product in some weeks.

F. Sacred Acreage Farm Hours

We are a “by appointment only” farm. We wear many hats and have to time manage effectively to make sure the farm runs smoothly. Please contact us ahead of time if you do plan on dropping by out of pick-up hours so we can be available to help you out. We regularly check for emails and orders through out the day. We would appreciate no calls to the farm after 8 p.m.

Section 2

A. Procedure for Pick Up of Share(s) – if applicable

You are responsible for observing our farm rules and pick up procedures.

1. You are responsible to pick up your share from the farm, 28 Pine Lake Road, in Rutherglen, each Tuesday (set time TBD), for 14 weeks, June 7, 2022 to September 6 2022.

2. If extenuating circumstances prevent you from picking up your share for any given week, then you must call ahead with as much notice and arrange for an alternative person to pick up your share(s) or have it delivered at your cost. This is accepted up to the end of Tuesday’s farm closing time at 8 p.m., unless otherwise discussed. We will text and/or call and/or follow up with email to try to reach you. If we do not hear from you by 8 p.m., Tuesday evening, you agree your share(s) will be forfeited. We will allow 2 “extenuating circumstances” per CSA membership. The CSA harvest is picked specifically for the pick-up day and time. Although we grow and deliver high-quality produce, it will decline quickly if not picked up in time and refrigerated. We are not responsible for wilted produce if you fail to pick up your share(s) on time.

3. You are responsible to pick up your share within the scheduled time, which will be sent via email communication mid to late May. If you feel that a weekly reminder text would be helpful for you, please let us know and we will add you to the reminder list, which is texted out to each participant on Tuesday, the morning of pick-up day.

4. We have working farm dogs on site and are a “by appointment only” farm. Thank you in advance for calling if you would like to drop by outside of pick-up hours. Thank you in advance for leaving your dog, or any other animal, home and not to our farm. This could distract our dogs and/or cause biohazard concerns for our CSA and farm. We take the safety of our farm and your food seriously.

5. If you cannot pick-up your share(s), due to commitments or vacation etc., and have decided for someone to pick up your share(s), please send us an email to let us know who your substitute is and what weeks this will be taking place. This is NOT counted as a “circumstance.” You are responsible for explaining the pick-up location and procedures to your substitute. Shares that are not retrieved within the pick-up time will be forfeited. We intend to donate to a local family in need of encouragement; donate to a food bank; or however we see fit at that time.

6. Refrigerate items that require it as soon as you are able. For good practice, we recommend washing all produce before eating.

B. Procedure for Delivery of Share(s) – if applicable

1. You are responsible to receive or have someone on your behalf receive your share(s) at the designated delivery location of your choice within North Bay city limits. Please contact us or send us an email info@sacredacreage.ca , if you or your substitute/alternative address are out of that region and require delivery, please call us for details.

2. If “extenuating circumstances” prevent you from being available for delivery for any given week, please call ahead with as much notice or arrange for an alternative person to be available to receive share(s). We can drive to another “last minute” location for an additional delivery charge, provided we have a time slot before 8 p.m. that same day. This verbal, texted or emailed notice from you to Sacred Acreage is accepted up to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. We do not generally deliver past 8 p.m. We will text and/or call and/or send an email to try to reach you if we have no success dropping off your share(s). If we do not hear from you by 8 p.m., Tuesday evening, you agree your share(s) will be forfeited. We allow 2 “extenuating circumstances” per Farm CSA membership.

3. You are responsible to be available at the mutually scheduled time and place, which will be confirmed via email communication on an individual basis. If, at that time, you feel that a weekly reminder text would be helpful for you, please let us know and we will add you to the reminder list.

4. If you have concrete commitments due to appointments or vacation etc., please make all arrangements for an alternative drop off address and send the information, including dates and alternative address, to Sacred Acreage via email to info@sacredacreage.ca

NOTE: There is allowance for one agreed on alternative delivery address per share. We require 5 days notice for changes to take effect. If planned with at least 5 days notice, this will NOT be counted as a “circumstance”. You are responsible for explaining the pick-up location and procedures to your substitute. Shares that are not retrieved within the pick-up time will be forfeited and donated to a local family in need of encouragement; donated to a local food bank; or however we see fit at that time.

5. Refrigerate all items that require it as soon as you are able. For good practice, we recommend washing all produce before eating.

Section 3

Membership Fees

By purchasing a Sacred Acreage - Farm CSA membership in advance of the growing period/season, it reduces the burden of up-front costs for us to grow the crops. We do not receive subsidies from the government like the larger farms. Your membership fees allow us to purchase seeds and equipment before the season starts. We appreciate your commitment.

All payments are non-refundable. We grow based on what customers order.

Communication

The best way to communicate with us is via email at info@sacredacreage.ca or by text/phone at 705.358.6959. Please do not call after 8 pm. Allow for several hours to pass before expecting a response to an urgent matter. All other calls, messages, emails or texts will be answered as quickly as possible and within 2 business days. We will most often communicate with you primarily by email or text.

When you sign up, you will be added to our distribution list. Please read your emails from us. We depend on being able to communicate important information such as necessary changes at your pick-up site or other farm events. Our website, https://www.sacredacreage.ca will have updates, recipes, microgreens information and farm related news, in the BLOG.

Sacred Acreage may change parts of this agreement related to production and distribution from time to time. We will contact you via email in advance of any changes to this agreement.
